I have been on a mini hiatus from blogging since I have arrived in Ghana two weeks. I caught the flu upon my arrival and the flu has decided to haunt me ever since! The simple task of going to the internet cafe has become a mission. During my mini hiatus, I watched Invictus – the South African movie based on the revival of the South African Rugby Union team and the new South Africa led by Nelson Mandela.
It baffles me how one man can suffer so much yet be so humble and forgiving. I love how Nelson Mandela thought sport could make a difference. Sport always seems to unites people. We see it all the time during World Cup events where people all over the world support their nation or teams, they may not all speak the same language verbally, but mentally and physically they are speaking the same language with the sport.Invictus is a feel good movie, which presents a different kind of reconciliation we wouldn’t have known of in South Africa. A biographical film directed by Clint Eastwood starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, based on the John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation before and during the 1995 Rugby World Cup, hosted in that country in the midst of a social, cultural and political transformation.
