Last year I promised to commemorate Africa day every year. Africa Day (May 25) was two days ago. I didn’t forget, I just wasn’t able to post.
This year, the theme was “Africa and the Diaspora”.
There is a saying we always use. I am not sure if it an Australian saying though. It goes like this…. ‘You can take the boy (or girl) out of the bush but you can never take the bush out of the boy (or girl)’. I relate this saying to the theme Africa and the Diaspora. Generations of Africans are now scattered all over the world, some walking around with Africa on their backs and others hiding it. Adopting new ways of life and keeping the old traditions. At the end of the day we are Africans and always will be whether we are in Africa or not. ‘You can take us out of Africa but you can never take Africa out of us’.
