Black means Different things in Different places

I love about the identity battles of Africans in the diaspora. Everybody’s experience of the issue is different yet the same. I can relate to those stories. And those are the stories which touch me the most. It was very interesting to watching spoken word by Lola Adesioye (below). Interesting because it never occurred to me that being of African descent in the UK was very different to being African descent in the US. I kind of thought because there are a few generations of Africans in bother countries, culturally defining oneself wouldn’t be as difficult as it is in Australia. I obviously had the wrong idea. As Lola stated, ‘being black in the UK doesn’t mean the same as being black in the US….. Being black means different things in different places!’.
