I was looking for something to watch on Channel 4 on Demand (4OD) YOUTUBE and I came across this TV-movie ‘I Am Slave’. Based on the real-life experiences of Mende Nazer, the story unfolds as twelve-year-old Malia, is abducted from her Sudanese village in the Nubar Mountains by pro-government Arab militia and sold into slavery to a woman in Khartoum. After six years in Khartoum, she is sent to London where her miserable life of servitude continues.
Modern slavery exists in various forms in the UK today. Approximately 5, 000 people are currently working as sex or domestic slaves in the country. ‘I Am Slave’ is a real eye-opener into this sad situation.
