Ethiopian-born, Swedish raised, Marcus Samuelsson is known as one of the best dressed chefs in the world. A master of cultural fusion in his cooking and owner of Red Rooster in Harlem.
Samuelsson‘s mother died when he was three years old in Ethiopia. Samuelsson and his elder sister moved to Sweden after being adopted by a Swedish family. He grew up fishing with his Dad and learning from his maternal grandmother in the kitchen.
In the clip below, Samuelsson chats with fellow chef Eric Ripert about his life experiences, from growing up in Sweden, his love for cooking, culinary training, going to Ethiopia for the first time, and racism in the cooking industry.
