The Africa Vintage Project

Last month, I introduced you to ‘The Nigerian Nostalgia Project‘ and now I am introducing you to ‘The Africa Vintage Project‘ by Muse Origins. This new tumblr site showcases Africa’s diverse people and culture from the good old days. Like The Nigerian Nostalgia ProjectThe Africa Vintage Project is a nostalgic reference of what was for our parents and a history lesson for those of us who didn’t get to experience those days.

I grew up with such a distorted impression of Africa. My parents would tell stories, but they didn’t have photos and what I saw on TV didn’t match up to their stories. Projects like The Africa Vintage Project, fill in the gaps to the stories my parents told and open me up to what was in countries other than Ghana.

German designer Karl Lagerfeld once said:

What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.

When I refer that quote to this project, I think of the photographs as imprints of Africa’s history which can never be erased or recreated.

I wish I had old school African photos which I could upload. I would literally flood the site! I see it as a visual reference for our generation and the next!

You can help build this archive by submitting photos to musevintageafrica.tumblr.com.
