EDUN BELIEVES THAT STYLE SHOULD HAVE SUBSTANCE. The materials for their garments are sourced internationally and were made solely in Africa. As of late last year, the production of EDUN was moved to Asia.
“Edun was initially celebrated for its…noble mission statement—to bring manufacturing back to Africa—but quickly ran into logistical challenges trying to manufacture there. The clothes were criticized by retailers for not being sufficiently fashionable, and deliveries were late… These days, most of the clothing is manufactured in China, but Ms. Hewson says she wants to increase Africa’s share of production (currently about 15%) each season“. (WALL STREET JOURNAL)
It’s quite weird that when I researched EDUN for yesterday’s post, I did not see anything discussing the production change. When Shingayi of Africa Motto commented on the post and mentioned the production change, I specifically went to search EDUN and China. I want to have the benefit of the doubt that there is no cover up on EDUN and LVMH’s part! Anyway, I love the simplicity, the dull colour tones and chilled out look of the garments.
