Wangai Maathai was an Environmentalist and Political Activist. She founded the Green Belt Movement in the 1970s. An environmental non-governmental organization focused on the planting of trees, environmental conservation, and women’s rights. Maathai was also the first African woman to win the Nobel peace prize. A visionary who left a green imprint on Africa. She was and always will be Africa’s tree lady. May her soul rest in peace!
