Afro-Creative: Marian Kihogo

Marian Kihogo is a fashion stylist, celebrity stylist, fashion writer and creative consultant. Her blog Mariankihogo.com is a interactive weblog featuring comprehensive fashion, beauty, music and art. The weblog also offers the latest updates to industry parties, events, emerging and established talents, and most importantly (I think), the visual journal of Marian‘s remarkable and innovative style.

Kihogo was born in Ghana and grew up in the UK. Growing up, she was surrounded by creativity with both her mother and grandmother as artists. To vent out her creativity Marian just created – anything from writing to painting and re-constructing garments. The way Marian started is quite an interesting story! In junior high school, she styled her friend’s mother. She was hosting a business dinner, had bought a great dress which didn’t do her any favours. While hanging out at her friend’s house with an hour left till the dinner, Marian worked her magic and spruced up the outfit which gave her friend’s mother a boost of confidence. With that, her friend’s mother passed on Marian‘s details to all her friends. And in an interview with FA’SHOE’NISTA, says ‘the rest they say is history’.

Now she is Associate Editor of Glossy magazine and styling the likes of Tolula Adeyemi.

Marian sees her style as a product of who she is a all her experiences to date.

Her style is certainly a reflection of her creativity. It’s experimental, edgy, modern, daring and uber-cool!
