FACTICIUS, the moving sculptures

FACTICIUS, the moving sculptures by Keyezua are man-made and expressive, animistic sculptures homage to the artist’s roots. Keyezua roots in Dutch and Angolan culture play an important role in her choices for FACTICIUS. The two sculptures embody her personality as both a man and a woman wrapped in different types of traditional fabric. Keyezua mixes Dutch and African fabrics creating a fusion of contemporary and traditional motifs, which question our notions about heritage.

The skin of the sculptures are made of traditional Dutch fabric from Volendam and around the fabric, screaming prints related to Africa with a touch of Delfts Blauw. The mixture of fabric and different materials is also a response to the Dutch society. Each nationality that arrives in the Netherlands brings its own religion, culture, tradition, beliefs and values. When placed as one image and not separated as a different group, one creates a rich cultural society, making FACTICIUS aesthetically strong enough to demand existence.

Currently on exhibit at the Royal Academy of Art at The Hague (The Netherlands) until early September.
