When I first saw the image I thought ‘WOW that looks like Westernised Maasai jewellery’. I started digging up some info about the jewllery and found out that it is part of the ‘Disco Beading Volume 1.1’ collection and, it is actually inspired by the underground music scene of Disco, Boogie, Synth, Funk, Electro, Detroit Techno, Dubsteps, Broken Beats and Future Soul. A case of bad judgment on my part!!!!
Funny enough, the designer of Brokenfab Fabienne Morel is Swiss and French with an Algerian background.
The jewellery of Brokenfab and Maasai jewellery seem similar yet have totally different meanings.
The beaded jewellery created and worn by the women from the Maasai Tribe (of Kenya and Northern Tanzania) is considered as an integral part of their culture, which reflects their identity and position in their society. Interesting!!!
