make fufu not war

When I think of fufu, it takes me back to Sundays in Ghana with the family. The soup heating on the stove, the family sitting around laughing and talking ( actually shouting over the top of each other), one of my Aunties along with (usually) a male cousin pounding the fufu. Then there is me… cringing my teeth praying that my Aunty’s fingers won’t get slammed through the pounding process. Then……. I am introduced to ‘Make Fufu Not War’ and I can’t help but chuckle and admire. The slogan turns the pounding process into a labour of love. Make Fufu Not War is a slogan used by apparel and accessories brand Kayobi. Kayobi (pronounced K-OW-B) tells the story of the African Diaspora through positive, vibrant and thought provoking imagery. What started as T-shirt line in Accra Ghana in 2008 now includes ipod sleeves and bags. Kayobi is now produced and designed in London. Their first collection ‘It’s always summer in Africa’ was inspired by Kayobi’s founder Kwabena Oppong Boateng’s half year stay in Ghana. The collection aims to capture the true essence of Africa with reference to the gift of eternal sunshine, life, beauty and hope over the continent. An abundant ray of colour in the collection creates a visual journey through Africa from childhood nostalgia to socio-political issues, music, culture, traditional art and food. From the images I have seen, I can feel the love and passion used to create this line. It’s lively, visually appealing and most importantly brings out the shining glow of Africa.
