Shekudo have just released their ‘WAHALA’ Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook. I’ve been so excited for this to come out since they released a sneak peak a week or two ago. The collection is distinctively African but avoids being stereotypically ‘tribal.’ I love the minimalist look they’ve gone for.
The designer duo Amy Iheakanwa and Shetu Simone, who have been friends since childhood remind me so much of Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton of Sass and Bide. Amy and Shetu have said one of the reasons they started their label was because they couldn’t find the right jeans to fit. It’s so refreshing that they have included denim in the line.
What I loved about the launch of the label and their Spring/Summer 2013 collection is that they have stayed true to their own sense of style. They have not tried to be anything but them and this collection oozes minimalism, funky, fresh, everything Shetu and Amy are.
