The Darkroom is a funky store which has an eclectic mix of high-end fashion, interiors, and lifestyle accessories along with a bi-monthly art and sculptural exhibition. The Darkroom stocks ‘interior accessories which explore the diverse materials, textures and production techniques of clothing or jewellery. Boundaries between art and design are questioned by functional pieces that also hold sculptural qualities – a necklace may be worn traditionally or hung on the wall as an objet d’art.’ Currently, the Darkroom is spotting ‘INTO AFRICA’ a summer season influenced by Africa with modernist accessories, traditional arts and textiles. Together we some of London’s best talents, the Darkroom have explored ‘outwards from the heart of the continent into brand new and unexpected contexts and territories.’
From the images I have seen, the concept is so modern and minimal yet still holds onto the tradition. It presents an avant-garde kind of Africa. I am going to London in September. I really hope that ‘INTO AFRICA’ is still there. I want to see the real deal for myself!
