Every since I started studying design at University, my dream to work for Vogue Africa in it’s inaugural stages!
So when I saw these Vogue Africa covers, my heart jumped! I thought Vogue Africa had become a reality. I was so excited. Then I realised that they were sample covers designed by beauty photographer Mario Epanya.
Mario Epanya is a Cameroonian creative based in Paris. He is a trained make-up artist but currently works as a beauty photographer. I love the thought of Epanya’s professional skill giving him the ability to branch into something different yet in the same kind of field.
Epanya has taken it upon himself to get the concept of a Vogue Africa magazine out there to the world and Vogue of course! For more insight about this project, there is a great interview with Mario on the Dre DeCarlo blog. In the interview, Mario says he is even trying to get investors for the project.
I think it is a fantastic idea! And the well designed covers visualise the concept well. I really hope Vogue takes note of the potential Africa has!
I putting myself on the line here, if anyone hears of Vogue Africa officially launching, or you know a friend who knows something, or you just happen to meet Anna Wintour one day and she tells you about Vogue Africa, flick me an email PLEASE! I really do want to work for Vogue Africa and be a part of global fashion history! I think we really need a Vogue Africa.
