SOURCE: WAFRICA
I read about Cameroonian born, Tokyo based designer Serge Mouangue a few years back and I was absolutely mesmerized by his work. Mouangue is the creator of ‘WAFRICA‘ (Wa’ being a contraction for Japan and Africa) is a collection of traditional Japanese Kimonos in 18 limited edition African prints sourced from Nigeria and Senegal. Mouangue designed the kimonos as a way to understand the Japanese culture and his own culture at the same time. I think Mouangue has given the garments all the respect they deserve by maintaining each elements characteristics. It’s amazing seeing important elements taken from the two very strong cultures and then moulded together into a piece of art!!!
