When I first saw these backstage images of the Fall 2011 Proenza Schouler collection on JAK & JILL, I thought that the collection was inspired by the intricate detailing, shapely graphical forms and vibrancy of Kente. Just looking at images, I can feel the thick woven effect of Kente!

In actual fact, the designers of Proenza Schouler – Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez were inspired by Native American blankets they purchased whilst on a road trip from Sante Fe to Wyoming. It’s amazing how ancient arts and crafts from different cultures have many similarities!
