yoruba interiors

Anthropologie as a interiors collection known as ‘Yoruba‘ (a Nigerian ethnic group and dialect) which is “inspired by the beauty of traditional African Kente cloth, circle upon circle of richly printed voile perform a dramatic dance of colour and pattern”. (Anthropologie)

I really like this collection of interiors. As much as I love wax print fabrics, too much of it in one place makes my heads spin. Or it becomes an attack of bright colours trying to invade my eyes. The ‘Yoruba‘ collection would work well because the colours are not too hard and harsh. It has a great down-to-earth homely and warm kind of feel to it.

Additional note (23.09.10): I should have added note this when I first posted this. The Anthropologie bedding collection is titled ‘Yoruba‘ which is a Nigerian ethnic group but it’s inspiration is apparently drawn from Ghanaian Kente cloth. Where is the correlation in this? Clearly, Anthropologie is confused! Just because Kente and Yoruba is African doesn’t mean that it is the same!

There is actually no visual reference of Kente in the collection either. Eccentricyoruba suggested (view comments below) that the collection be called adire or aso oke – either one of the names would have been more suitable.
