Cultural Revolution/Abstract self portraiture is a past exhibition which featured the work of Australian-Ethiopian artist Tamirat Gebremariam. The paintings looked at identity and history in two cultures − the beauty and authenticity of Ethiopian heritage and Australian urban cultural diversity. Gebremariam‘s memory of the journey from Ethiopia to Australia was depicted through layers and gestures, generating a conversation between the self (identity) and the abstract self portrait.
