To me, the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South African became the 2010 FIFA World Cup for AFRICA. It was our chance to show the world what Africa is made of. It was our opportunity as a continent to come together as one and show every African country our support for each other. I remember hearing one Australian commentator say that this World Cup has shown the unity of Africa. In Europe you would see countries turn around and support their neighbours. But we Africans don’t care. As long as the country is in Africa, we demonstrate our support.
I think that is very true!!!!!
Unfortunately, all but one African team has made it to the Final 16.
And I am delighted to say that team is GHANA BLACK STARS!
For those who don’t know, I am an Australian born Ghanaian girl. I have no shame in supporting Ghana at any sporting event. Numerous times, I have been labelled as a betrayer for showing my support towards Ghana rather than Australia. I am given more grief when Ghana does not surpass Australia. But today, circumstances have changed. I am proud to announce that Australia’s 2-1 win over Serbia paved the way for Ghana to qualify to the Final 16!!!!
Now the weight of Africa is on Ghana’s shoulder.
I hope the Black Stars shine and do Africa proud!!!

I stumbled across this clip of Ghana’s and West Africa’s first Flashmob by Vodafone. It is the first Flashmob to be held outside South Africa. Three hundred people in Kwame Nkrumah Circle (Accra, Ghana) were dancing to celebrate the first World Cup held in Africa and to show their support for the Black Stars.
I wish I was in Ghana to experience this live. I recently missed the ending of a Flashmob held at Central Station in Sydney by 30 seconds. It wasn’t as large as the Ghana one, but I would have loved to walk right into it. If only I had just walked a little faster to the train station.
